Practical Tips For Visiting Capri Island
To help you plan your visit even further, I’ve got some more tips for you. See how to get around the island, what to do, or where to stay during your visit:
How To Get From Marina Grande To Capri Town
Once you arrive in the Marina Grande harbor in Capri, you’ll still have to get to Capri town. You can walk, or take a funicular train.
There are only a few taxis on the island, and there aren’t regular taxis. They usually charge you per hour, up to 80 EUR per hour. Generally, I wouldn’t take taxis on Capri Island.
The funicular train is the best way to get from Marina Grande to Capri town. It only costs 2 EUR, and takes you to the town within 15 minutes. You’ll get beautiful sea and island views during the journey.
The funicular station is right opposite the ferry terminal.
Alternatively, you can also walk from Marina Grande to Capri Town. It’s uphill but nothing too challenging. It takes between 20 and 30 minutes to walk. I’ve done the walk, and it was wonderful.
How To Get Around Capri
The best way to get around Capri is on foot, taking a local bus, or riding a scooter.
There are tiny local buses that you can take, mainly between the major towns of Capri and Ana Capri. The buses are often crowded, and you can always sneak in.
They depart regularly, every 15 minutes, and a ride costs 2 EUR – 2.5. EUR. You can buy tickets at the ticket counter at the main stations. It’s also possible to pay for the ride on the bus, but it’s slightly more expensive (only about 3 EUR).
You can rent a scooter depending on how many days you spend in Capri. I don’t necessarily suggest renting a car. The island is small, and the roads are curvy, tiny, and narrow.
So, just to take the trouble out of driving, I recommend renting a small scooter if you want to.
But as I said, I suggest just exploring the main areas on foot and taking buses between the bigger cities.
Where To Stay In Capri
Capri has two major towns – Capri and Anacapri. Capri town is very crowded, so if you want to stay in that area, I recommend booking your hotel outside the town, or at least not directly at the main square.
Anacapri is less busy and more traditional. You’ll get stunning views, and the atmosphere is, in my opinion, better than in Capri. Many tourists visit Capri for a day trip and won’t even visit Anacapri. So it stays quieter and more romantic.
With that said, here are the best areas and hotels I recommend for your stay:
BEST HOTELS IN CAPRI
β‘ HOTEL LA MINERVA
β‘ AIANO B&B
β‘ VILLA OLGA LUXURY CAPRI
β‘ VILLA MARIUCCIA CAPRI
BEST HOTELS IN ANACAPRI
β‘ HOTEL AL MULINO
β‘ B&B II TRAMONTO
β‘ HOTEL CAESAR AUGUSTUS
β‘ HOTEL ORSA MAGGIORE
Best Things To Do In Capri
As I mentioned before, Capri gets super busy during the day. And it often disappoints me. I’ve already visited Capri twice, and the atmosphere just destroys me.
So just be aware that it’ll be crowded, hot, and overpriced.
What was the biggest surprise was Anacapri. I loved the vibe of the town. That place truly matched the expectations I had from Capri. So, if you can, definitely don’t miss Anacapri and the chairlift.
Nevertheless, it’s worth seeing the island when you’re around. So here are a couple of things I recommend doing during your visit:
β
Visit Anacapri
β
Ride A Chairlift From Anacapri
β
Enjoy Monte Solaro & The Views
β
Visit Blue Grotto
β
Go On A Boat Trip
β
Enjoy Views From Belvedere Traga
β
Explore Giardini Di Augusto (Gardens)
β
Enjoy Views From Capri Overlook
β
Go Hiking On Via Tragara
β
Enjoy The Beaches & Go Swimming
β
Have A Romantic Dinner
β
Eat Gelato
β
Enjoy Capri Salad (it comes from Capri)
