Traveling Switzerland with Swiss Travel Passes, in general, is the best thing you can go for. These passes help you get the most out of your Swiss itinerary and save you a lot of money.

I spent a month traveling in Switzerland using my Swiss Travel Pass Flex. Then, I lived in the Jungfrau region (Grindelwald) for a year and used the Jungfrau Travel Pass at the beginning of my stay. Living and working in the Jungfrau region, I’ve helped many travelers choose the right pass and save money.

So in this article, I’ll give you information about these two passes, list the advantages of each, and help you decide which one you should choose for your Swiss trip.

Jungfrau Travel Pass Or Swiss Travel Pass: Which One Should You Choose?

Choosing the right travel pass depends on two main factors.

1. Depends on the number of days you’ll spend in Switzerland or one region.
2.  Depends on the number of places you want to visit in Switzerland.

If you want to spend 3 or more days only in the Jungfrau region and don’t want to explore the rest of Switzerland, choose the Jungfrau Travel Pass.

If you want to travel to more places in Switzerland and spend 3 or more days there. Go for a Swiss Travel Pass.

Now that you have a general understanding of these two passes, let’s break each down. I’ll give you detailed information about each pass, what it’s good for, how much it costs, and where to get it.

NOTE: Top of Europe Pass does no longer exist for summer 2024. You can only purchase the Jungfrau Travel Pass.

What Is Jungfrau Travel Pass

Jungfrau Travel Pass is an all-in-one pass enabling you to travel within the Jungfrau region at a discounted rate. If you were to do all activities and get on all cable cars and trains within the Jungfrau region, it would cost you triple the price without the Jungfrau Travel Pass.

It’s available for 3 – 8 days and is valid for the entire Jungfrau region.

NOTE: Jungfrau Travel Pass is only available for summertime, 7th April until 5th November 2024.

How Much Does Jungfrau Travel Pass Cost

The price of your Jungfrau Travel Pass depends on the number of days you choose to stay in the Jungfrau region.

What Is Included In Jungfrau Travel Pass

You can use the Jungfrau Travel Pass within the entire Jungfrau region. All train rides are included, buses, cable cars, activities, and even boat cruises on Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. Have a look at the map below. I’ve marked all the places and rides where the Jungfrau Travel Pass is valid in the Jungfrau region.

What Is Partially Included In Jungfrau Travel Pass

The only two mountain excursions not fully included in your Jungfrau Travel Pass are Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn. Still, you’ll get it for extensive discounts and only pay an extra fee for some cable car/train sections.

Jungfraujoch with Jungfrau Travel Pass costs you 63 CHF extra instead of the full price of 220 CHF. This extra fee of 63 CHF covers the train journey from Eigergletscher to Schilthorn.

Schilthorn with Jungfrau Travel Pass costs you 64.20 CHF (Mürren – Birg – Schilthorn).

Where To Buy Jungfrau Travel Pass

You can buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass online or on the spot.

It doesn’t matter where you buy the pass. The costs are the same. So do it the way that is most convenient for you.

Buying Jungfrau Travel Pass Online

You can purchase the pass online. After, they’ll send you an email confirmation with a code. You can save it on your phone or print it and travel within the Jungfrau region.

PRO TIP: I recommend saving it on your phone and printing it out. This way, you’ll be covered if anything happens or your phone battery dies.

Buying Jungfrau Travel Pass In Switzerland

You can also buy the pass on the spot once you arrive in Switzerland. It’s possible at the main train stations in Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, and Grindelwald.

You can also buy the pass at the Terminal station (cable car) in Grindelwald.

Swiss Travel Pass is available for 3, 4, 6, 8, or 15 consecutive days. That means you’ll travel for your chosen number of days and use the pass day after day.

If you want to spend more time in Switzerland and don’t want to travel on consecutive days, go for Swiss Travel Pass Flex. It is also available for 3, 4, 6, 8, or 15 days, but it gives you the chance to travel in Switzerland within a month.

My Experience With Swiss Passes

I purchased the Swiss Travel Pass Flex for my 8-day Switzerland itinerary and couldn’t have done better. It helped me to save thousands of Swiss Francs for the entire trip. I could spend the whole month in Switzerland and use the pass on the days I got from one destination to another.

Experience With Swiss Travel Pass

When I used the pass, I traveled as much as possible to see many places. I also changed transportation each day. For instance, I traveled by train, switched to a boat when there was an option, and visited cities and museums.

On other days, I took the opportunity to stay in one destination and went hiking. On these days, I didn’t use my Swiss Pass and saved the days.

Experience With Jungfrau Travel Pass

For my second visit to Switzerland, I only explored the Jungfrau region. It’s my favorite place in Switzerland, so I had to. I got the Jungfrau Travel Pass for 3 days and explored all the places with it.

Again, it saved me hundreds of Swiss Francs as I didn’t have to pay separately for every attraction and cable car. It was also very convenient and gave me a lot of flexibility. I didn’t have to care about tickets. I simply woke up and traveled wherever I wanted to.

Should You Buy Both Passes?

I think getting both passes, the Swiss Travel Pass and Jungfrau Travel Pass is a great idea, but only in the following situation:

Situation 1: Buy Both Passes

Let’s say you want to make this 8-day Switzerland itinerary. You want to get the most out of your trip and see as many places as possible. For this reason, getting the Swiss Travel Pass is the best deal for you.

Throughout this itinerary, you want to spend a lot of time in the Jungfrau region (3 or more days). You have many places in the Jungfrau region on your bucket list. In this case, getting the Jungfrau Travel Pass and your Swiss Travel Pass is worth it. It’ll save you a lot.

Situation 2: Buy Only One Pass

If you do the 8-day Swiss itinerary, but let’s say you only want to spend 2 days in the Jungfrau region or you only want to do 1 excursion (e.g., Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn), then don’t buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass and use your Swiss Travel Pass for discounts.

However, if you decide to explore the Jungfrau region and nothing else in Switzerland, buy only the Jungfrau Travel Pass. In this case, the Swiss Travel Pass wouldn’t serve you well.

Is It Worth To Buy Jungfrau Pass?

Yes, Jungfrau Travel Pass is worth buying if you want to stay in the Jungfrau region 3 or more days. It’s also worth getting if you want to do at least 2 excursions within the Jungfrau region.

What Is The Difference Between Top Of Europe Pass & Jungfrau Travel Pass?

As of 2023, the Top of Europe Pass doesn’t exist anymore. So there is no chance to buy it.

But the difference was that the Top of Europe Pass covered fewer places in the Jungfrau region, yet Jungfraujoch was fully included. On the other hand, Jungfrau Travel Pass covers more places in the Jungfrau region (also boats on Lake Brienz & Lake Thin) but doesn’t fully cover Jungfraujoch.

Does Jungfrau Pass Cover Jungfraujoch?

No, Jungfrau Travel Pass doesn’t fully cover Jungfraujoch. However, you only have to pay an extra fee of 63 CHF for the train ride between Eigergletscher and Jungfraujoch. All the other trains and cable cars towards Jungfraujoch are included.

My biggest tip is to get some kind of pass. Paying for single tickets and excursions in Switzerland is way too expensive, and you would be a lot for no reason. So get a pass, as it’ll save you a lot.
