Map Of The Best Hotels In Zermatt
If you’re a map freak just like I am, maybe it’s easier for you to visualize the hotels on the map – so here is a map of my favorite hotels in Zermatt to make the booking more visual for you:
Where To Stay In Zermatt In Summer
Visiting Zermatt in the summer gives you a chance to enjoy breathtaking hikes, immerse yourself in pure nature, pet the black sheep, or simply take part in its mountain excursions.
I would say in the summer, it doesn’t really matter where you stay, since Zermatt is pretty walkable and easier to navigate without snow. You can get everywhere much faster and lighter than in the winter.
With that said, here are my favorite hotels to stay in Zermatt in the summer:
π° BaseCamp Hotel
BaseCamp is a budget-friendly 3* hotel with an Alpine charm. It’s located about a 4-minute walk to the city center in a quiet location. It’s in the middle of the town, so you can access all the cable car stations equally. Breakfast is included, and there is a sauna on-site.
β‘ Book your stay at BaseCamp Hotel here.
π° Backstage Boutique SPA Hotel
If you want to be in the city center and close to the main train station, + enjoy a bit of luxury and spa, the Backstage hotel is a great pick. So many of my travel itinerary clients have already stayed here and loved it.
It has a nice spa, the staff is super friendly, and some rooms have views of the Matterhorn.
β‘ Check out Backstage Boutique Spa Hotel offers here.
π° Monte Rosa Boutique Hotel
Another great hotel in the very city center, close to all the restaurants and stations. Monte Rosa has a historic touch in its style. It was the first ever hotel built in Zermatt.
They have Edward’s Scottish-style bar on-site and a garden with Matterhorn views. You’ll also gain access to a spa in a nearby 5* Mont Cervin.
β‘ Book your stay at Monte Rosa Boutique Hotel here.
π° Matterhorn Lodge Boutique Hotel & Apartments
If you’re looking for a traditional hotel with Alpine charm in the city center with a cozy wellness area, Matterhorn Lodge might win your heart.
Breakfast is included and super delicious. It’s in the center, so it’s surrounded by other buildings, and the views are limited here – but you’ll love how easily accessible it is.
β‘ Check out Matterhorn Lodge Boutique Hotel offers here.
π° Grand Hotel Zermatterhof
If luxury and high-end service are your non-negotiables, stay in the heart of Zermatt in the 5* Grand Hotel Zermatterhof. It offers a beautiful wellness center with a fitness/gym, every room has a tea/coffee maker (which is always a plus for me), and you can enjoy 3 on-site restaurants.
It’s in the middle of the town, so a bit further away from all cable car stations and the train station, but it’s easy to walk everywhere in the summer.
β‘ Book your stay at the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof here.
Where To Stay In Zermatt For Hiking
As I mentioned before, in the summer it doesn’t matter much where you stay, unlike in the winter, since all the hiking trails are easily accessible and within walking distance.
But there are some unique hotels outside town where I highly recommend staying if you want to be in nature, wake up, and start hiking right away.
These are the hotels I recommend for hikers in Zermatt + all the above ones in the summer are equally great:
π° Riffelhaus 1853 – in pure nature with stunning views of the Matterhorn
π° 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat – on the top of Gornergrat – one of the most unique locations in Switzerland (second highest hotel in the Alps)
π° 22 Summits Boutique Hotel – close to the Matterhorn Express cable car station (for the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise excursion)
π° Relais & Chateaux SchΓΆnegg – close to the Sunnega funicular station – to access 5 lakes’ hiking trail, Fluhalp, and Rothorn
Where To Stay In Zermatt In Winter
In winter, it’s more important to make wise decisions about the hotel you’ll stay at, as conditions can get a bit more difficult when walking around with your ski/snowboard and snow on the streets. Nothing too bad, but to make your life a bit easier. It’s clever to stay in hotels near the stations so you can wake up and hit the slopes without spending an extra 30 minutes getting there.
If you are not going skiing and just picture a cozy hotel to sip your cup of coffee/tea next to the fire or relax in a hot tub or heated pool overlooking the Matterhorn, I’ll give you my favorite hotel picks, too.
So, here are all the hotels I suggest in Zermatt for your winter holidays.
π° Alpine Hotel Perren
This budget-friendly 3* hotel is close to Sunnegga station. It has an on-site restaurant, a cozy wellness center, and some rooms with views of the Matterhorn. It’s on the side of the road, accessible to the city center (just a 3-minute walk), and close to an apres-ski bar (Happy’s Ski Bar).
β‘ Book your stay at the Alpine Hotel Perren here.
π° Hotel Bristol
Another 3* hotel, a bit far away from the main train station, but close to the city center. If you are an advanced skier excited to hit the slopes around the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise area, you’ll be very close to the Matterhorn Express cable car station.
This hotel is my favorite for its simple style, the coziness upon entering, and the terrace with the best views of the Matterhorn. There is a spa center and you’ll enjoy their delicious breakfast.
β‘ Check out Hotel Bristol offers here.
π° La Couronne Hotel & Spa
If you’re looking for a bit more luxury in a 4* hotel and a large wellness area, pick the La Couronne hotel. They have an amazing heated outdoor pool overlooking the Matterhorn, a wellness area, spacious rooms, and it’s also close to the Matterhorn Express cable car station, which provides access to the biggest ski area in Zermatt.
β‘ Book your stay at La Couronne Hotel & Spa here.
π° 22 Summits Boutique Hotel
Close to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise ski area, 22 Summits Hotel offers a stunning Alpine-chic interior with plenty of wooden accents, which I love – it adds extra coziness. It has a fitness center with a great spa and an outdoor hot tub, and it’s a bit away from the business of town, so you’ll enjoy quiet and views of the Matterhorn.
β‘ Check out 22 Summits Boutique Hotel offers here.
π° Hotel ZERMAMA Zermatt
If you want to be close to the train station, Sunnegga ski area, Gornergrat, and the city center, yet not surrounded by buildings, Hotel Zermama is amazing. Rooms have a nice touch of modern luxury with traditional vibe, and I especially love the on-site restaurants where you can warm up after a long day of skiing.
β‘ Book your stay at the Hotel ZERMAMA Zermatt here.
π° Nomad by CERVO Mountain Resort
CERVO Resort has everything you might picture a winter resort to have – amazing spa facilities, stunning views, it’s close to Sunnegga station, beautiful rooms, an amazing on-site restaurant with live music, and even its own apres-ski bar. It feels like you’re staying in a different village within Zermatt.
β‘ Check out the CERVO Mountain Resort offers here.
π° Relais & Chateaux SchΓΆnegg
I’ve saved the best for last – Hotel SchΓΆnegg is my overall favorite hotel in Zermatt. Its location, close to Sunnegga, makes it a ski-to-door hotel, and it’s on a hill, so you’ll have perfect views of the town and the Matterhorn.
The style is traditional with touches of luxury. They have an amazing wellness center with a fitness area, and the one-site fine-dining restaurant is top-class. I love their hospitality and sipping hot chocolate from the terrace.
β‘ Book your stay at the Relais & Chateaux SchΓΆnegg here.

Zermatt has 3 main ski areas: Sunnegga-Rothorn, Gornergrat, and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. And there are some great hotels close to each of them.
So, based on my criteria, here are the best hotels in Zermatt for skiing:
π° 22 Summits Apartments
π° Relais & Chateaux SchΓΆnegg

It was one of my absolute best winter holidays, to say the least… I loved skiing here.
Hotels In Zermatt With View Of Matterhorn
I know you probably don’t care about logistics, and the most important criteria for your hotel pick in Zermatt is whether it has views of the Matterhorn.
Lol, that’s pretty understandable – and it’s the same for me whenever I am visiting Zermatt. There is just something so magical about waking up to the stunning views of this majestic mountain peak and sipping a nice coffee/tea from your balcony with that view.
So, here are my favorite hotels in Zermatt with the Matterhorn views (still not cutting on quality, nor logistics):
π° Hotel Bristol
π° Alpine Hotel Perren
π° 22 Summits Boutique Hotel
π° Sonnmatten Boutique Hotel
π° Relais & Chateaux SchΓΆnegg
π° Nomad by CERVO Mountain Resort
π° Riffelhaus 1853
π° 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat
Where To Stay In Zermatt On A Budget
If price is a significant factor for you, Zermatt isn’t the most budget-friendly destination, but it can be if you know how. So in this section, I’ve got some budget-friendly places for you.
You could potentially stay in TΓ€sch, the last town before Zermatt, accessible by car. Zermatt is a car-free village, and so if you’re driving, you’d have to leave your car here and take a train to Zermatt.
TΓ€sch has many budget-friendly accommodations, but it’s not Zermatt. So I’d rather pay a bit more and experience the charm of staying in the heart of Zermatt, it’s just not the same if you stay elsewhere.
Here are some budget-friendly accommodation options I recommend in Zermatt:
π° BaseCamp Hotel
π° Alpine Hotel Perren
π° Arca Aparthotel & Spa
Airbnb Zermatt
I once stayed in an Airbnb in Zermatt – and let me tell you, the views of Matterhorn every morning from her balcony were my favorite part by far.
This apartment is no longer available, but there are so many options – and some flats are pretty nice, with the most stunning views. Airbnb is a great budget-friendly option, especially if you want a kitchen or to travel as a family or solo.
