is easter a good time to visit europe answered

I love Easter in Europe – everything starts blooming and waking up after a cold winter. People return to the streets of Rome, Seville, and Prague, sipping their coffee or wine and people watching. Everything seems to be so relaxed and beautiful. It’s a great time to travel.

If you want to experience this vibe and also match your trip with some Easter celebrations in European cities, I’ll tell you the reasons why it’s a great time to come to Europe, and also places I recommend you visit.

Is Easter A Good Time To Visit Europe? Answered!

Yes, Easter is a great time to visit Europe, because everything starts blooming, the weather is warm and gentle, and you can experience some of the most amazing Easter celebrations in major cities.

The only disadvantage is that everything gets a lot more crowded due to holidays (only during the Easter week though). But if you know where to go, you can avoid the crowds, too.

Reasons To Visit Europe During Easter

Here are the main reasons why Europe is worth visiting during Easter time:

1. Amazing Easter Celebrations & Markets
2. Shoulder Season & Great Deals
3. Nice Weather
4. Fewer Crowds

1. Amazing Easter Celebrations & Markets

The main reason to visit Europe during Easter is its amazing celebrations. Many cities like Seville, Malaga, Braga, Krakow, or a few in Sicily, celebrate Easter in big style. There are processions and locals dressed in costumes performing major events from the Bible. It’s spectacular.

My favorite place to be for these Easter celebrations is southern Spain. If you want to be part of them, rent a car and make a week-long road trip through Andalusia (southern Spain), visiting the most beautiful cities, learning about their history, and participating in their Easter celebrations. It’s an experience of a lifetime.

2. Shoulder Season & Great Deals

Peak Easter week, when the celebrations are, tend to be expensive, but apart from those couple of days, Easter is a shoulder season in Europe, which means most hotels and airlines have fairly affordable prices.

Many hotels or accommodation websites offer packages and discounts like 4 nights for 5, and include many other benefits. So, it may be a good time for a budget trip.

Hotels in the Alps, like Switzerland and the Dolomites, tend to have great deals, too. Some resorts like Cortina d’Ampezzo tend to have slopes open until May. So it’s a great time to visit, too.

3. Nice Weather

Easter is one of the best times to visit Europe as the temperatures are mild, not cold anymore, but also not too hot. Just imagine yourself strolling through the streets of Paris in a light jacket or a jersey and feeling the breeze.

Temperatures range between 15Β°C and 20Β°C (59Β°F – 68Β°F), which is the perfect weather to explore, especially cities.

The only disadvantage is that it can rain more than at any other time. It depends on the year, but for instance, I visited the Amalfi Coast in May 2023, and it was very rainy and gloomy the entire time. So, before you go, check the weather forecast.

But generally speaking, the weather tends to be nice.

4. Fewer Crowds

I am not talking about places that have major Easter celebrations like Seville, Malaga, Krakow, or Braga in Portugal.

I am talking about hidden gems that are still much less crowded during Easter than in the summertime. Pick Puglia in Italy, Tuscany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Canary Islands, Bulgaria, and Romania – those countries offer a lot without having to stand in lines.

FAQs

I’ve also answered some of the most frequently asked questions about Easter time in Europe. Check my answers below:

Is Easter A Good Time To Visit Europe from the USA?

Yes, Easter is a great time to visit Europe from the USA. Outside of the Easter week, you can get pretty good airline deals and accommodation. If you don’t mind the price, you’ll love the European Easter celebrations.

Is Europe Busy During Easter?

Yes, Europe is very busy but only during the Easter week. Outside of the main Easter celebrations, Europe can be quite quiet and less crowded than at any other time of the year.

Is It Better To Go To Europe In March Or April?

April is better to go to Europe than March. April tends to have nicer weather, and it’s more beautiful, full of flowers, and more greenery. March is still in the midst of winter, so the landscape isn’t as nice.

However, it depends on where you go – if you plan to visit the mountains/Alps in Europe, April is a shoulder season, and most places are closed, so for the mountains, March is a better time to visit.

Where To Go In Europe For Easter?

Southern Spain (Seville, Malaga), Portugal (Braga and Fatima), Krakow in Poland, a few places in Sicily, Prague in the Czech Republic, or the Canary Islands for warm weather – these are all great places to visit in Europe during Easter.

Best Time To Visit Europe To Avoid Crowds

October and April are the best times to visit Europe to avoid crowds, but it really depends on where you go. Some places, like the Amalfi Coast, or major cities like Rome, Florence, Barcelona, and Madrid, are always crowded, no matter which month you visit.

But generally, October and April tend to have fewer people everywhere.

Best Places To Visit In Europe In April With Family

Puglia in Italy can be great to go on a bike trip with a family, Easter celebrations in Seville or Malaga can be interesting for the children, Prague has a great pool center, so you can celebrate Easter in a nice city with some fun for the kids.

The Worst Time To Visit Europe

There is no worst time to visit Europe, because it widely depends on where you go and what you want to do.

For the Alps, the worst time to visit is November and April, as it’s the shoulder season and most things and places are closed.

For major cities like Rome, Florence, Barcelona, and Madrid, the worst time to visit is the peak summer months like July and August due to crowds and heat.

For northern Europe, the worst time to visit can be November, January, and February, because there is less to do and see than throughout the summer.

So, first think about the places/countries you want to see, and then you can write me an email and ask which time is best to visit.

Cheapest Places To Visit In Europe In April

April is generally the cheapest month to visit Europe, outside of the peak Easter week. So no matter where you go, prices will be much lower than they are at any other time throughout the year.
